Travel by Air


Visitors going to Portsmouth generally arrive at Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, and Southampton International Airport. By car, Heathrow is an hour and 30 minutes away from the university via the A3 (M)/M25). Gatwick Airport is also an hour and 30 minutes away by car from the university, while Southampton International Airport is 30 minutes away by car from the university via the M275/M27. Southampton offers regular flights to and from Paris, Cherbourg, the Channel Islands, Belfast and Glasgow.

Car Parking


Parking spaces in the university are available, but a visitor's parking permit should be secured and displayed when parking in the university car park. Reservations for permits can be obtained in any of the Departments. Metered street parking outside the campus is limited, but public car parks are available nearby.

Travel by Trains and Rail


Visitors can reach the university by taking the National Rail. It takes an hour and thirty minutes to take the train from the London Waterloo station and two hours and 10 minutes from London Victoria station. The train ride takes two hours from Bristol and three hours and 15 minutes from South Wales. The Guildhall campus is within walking distance of the Portsmouth and Southsea station.

Travel by Buses and Coachl


Daily direct coach services to London for countrywide connections, West Country Bristol, South Wales, the Midlands, and north Birmingham are available at the Hard Interchange in the Portsmouth Harbour railway station. The station is just a short taxi ride or a 15-minute walk from the Guildhall campus.
University bus and minibus services travelling between the Guildhall and Langstone campus are available from 6:15 am to 5:30 pm.

Ferry


Portsmouth is the home of the Royal Navy, and is one of the country's best-linked ferry ports. The Portsmouth harbour has three main terminals - the Continental Ferry Port, the Naval Base, and the Isle of Wight (Ryde) Passenger Ferry Terminal.

Four ferry companies serve the Continental Ferry Terminal. LD Lines crosses to Le Havre in France. The trip takes about five hours and 30 minutes during daytime and about seven hours and 30 minutes at night. PandO Portsmouth goes to Spain twice a week. The trip takes 30 hours. Brittany Ferries crosses to Cherbourg, Caen, and St. Malo in France everyday. Condor Ferries provide services to passengers going to St. Helier in Jersey and St Peter Port in Guernsey everyday (except Sundays). The Isle of Wight Passenger Passenger Ferry Terminal, on the other hand, is serviced by Wightlink Ferries. There are daily crossing to Ryde. The ferry ride takes 15 minutes, and the car ferry takes about 35 minutes.

Travel by Taxi


It is not advisable to take an airport taxi from Heathrow Airport to Portsmouth because it can get very expensive. It is much cheaper to book a taxi instead. Visitors coming from the Portsmouth Harbour stations can take a short taxi ride to the university.
